Skate Park Improvements

Published: 03 May 2022

With some money that has already been budgeted, along with hopefully some grant funding, the Parish Council is looking to make improvements to this area by replacing an item within the Skate Park which is not very user friendly, and the below design has been suggested.

We are looking to replace the central piece of equipment (between the quarter pipes and flat banks) with something that is easier to jump - the volcano. This is a variation to the spine ramp that's currently there and will be more forgiving to younger/novice users. This would also work better for skaters, scooter riders and bmxers.

Next to that will be a set of double pump bumps. This is a long obstacle, so it'll span over most of the floor. Great fun, suitable for all vehicles especially younger users. More experienced riders would be able to jump diagonally across from volcano to pump bump in both directions so if you're a lefty or a righty it'll work equally well. We could look at other options for equipment of a similar length in place of the pump bump, but unfortunately a good-sized jump box would not fit in the available space!

The scale of our drawing is slightly off, in that the existing obstacles at either end of the park are a little small compared to their actual height, but the new stuff is scaled correctly and in real terms would be around 900mm (3ft) high. As length is proportional to height, it's likely the volcano may end up a little higher, and the pump bumps a little lower to suit the site and the riding lines, but you should get the gist from the plan produced.

Now we want to know what you think. Are you happy for us to make changes to your area? We want to know if you support the improvement works and for you to give us any further views on this so that where possible – space and cost permitting, these could be incorporated.
